I’m Back…

Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day, y’all!

(Fun fact: I’m one of those rare single girls who actually loves VDay…chocolate, flowers, and everyone being nice? Yes, please!)

It’s been 2 months + 1 day since I last posted.

I’ll try not to do that again, kapeesh?

(Shout out to Uncle Jesse…PS have you guys noticed that John Stamos seems to actually get MORE attractive with age? It’s like reverse Benjamin Button but with looks…also, I reference Benjamin Button WAAAY too much considering I’ve never seen the movie.)

Anyway, I’m back.

I realized I need to write this blog for the very reason I started it (check out my first post here, if you’re curious).

I need to constantly remind myself of God’s goodness, blessings, and amazing grace in my life.

A lot of times, I can be very in the moment and forget that “now” is not “forever.”

Here’s a GREAT post by Jon Acuff about that: The Truth About the Moment

So just in case you need reminders of God’s faithfulness (I definitely need that), here are some instances from my life:

He is faithful.

Before I was born…

He is faithful.

-My mom came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and has followed Him wholeheartedly every since…she and my dad fell in love 🙂

-My parents got married and God did some amazing things to make that happen (ask me about my grandma’s ring if you’re curious! I’ve given 2 speeches on that 🙂 )

He is faithful.

Onto the present...

He is faithful.

My parents not only fell in love, but they’ve also stayed in love. Just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this past December. I’m aware of how incredibly rare that is nowadays.

My parents prayed for 8 years before God gave them a baby (me). What a testimony of their faithfulness in praying and His faithfulness in being the Giver of all good things. In those 8 years, He also molded and prepared my parents to be godly parents and gave my mom (a fairly new Christian at that time) the faith to pray and believe. She could have easily been discouraged (and I’m sure there were times of immense discouragement), but by the grace of God, He gave them the strength to carry on and learn to lean on Him.

He is faithful.

-I wanted a brother as soon as I understood the concept of siblings…we began praying. 2.5 years after my parents had their first miracle baby, my mom gave birth to my little brother. And he’s hilarious, intelligent, and awesome. (I’m sure he’d be happy to tell you that himself…lol)

-We’ve had various health concerns and God has always come through for us: giving us strength to endure and granting healing to celebrate

He is faithful.

My junior year of high school, I felt like I had become too “clique-y” and prayed that God would teach me to love Him and others more and get out of my comfort zone. By senior year, my friend circle had more or less disappeared…but in that time, I saw how God had answered my prayer (be careful what you pray for!) and I learned to lean on Him and know Him as the truest Friend.

My freshman year of college, I struggled with being a Christian in the science field. Hearing various people say that God doesn’t belong in science made me question if I belonged in science…but God used this to remind me that His Word is TRUTH.

Spring semester of my freshman year, I believed that God’s Word is true, but I began to doubt that I should stay immersed in a field where many question God’s Word. I accompanied a friend to a college group and God really made clear that I’m supposed to stay on this path towards medical school. Read this previous post if you’re interested in the message behind that confirmation (and a sneak peak at a letter to my future husband…it is Valentine’s Day, after all!): The Letters

Throughout college, oh goodness, so many circumstances (Orgo lol, people saying things to me, my own over-analyzation, etc.) have made me have doubts back and forth even after that confirmation. Yet God is faithful and continued to guide me down the path. He remained faithful when I was faithless (2 Tim. 2:13).

He is faithful.

MCAT. God came through and gave me the strength to study even though I had some health issues (that we didn’t even realize until a few months before my test date!). The Lord revealed those issues in early January, I was able to get some blood work done, and we pinpointed the problem. Nothing major (some vitamin deficiencies), but it’s amazing what a difference a few vitamins can make! Night and day, people.

He is faithful.

Med school. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to interview at three schools and I’ve been accepted to two (the third interview was yesterday, so I don’t know their decision yet). Regardless of the results of the interview, I feel so blessed to have met my interviewers. Most of you who know me realize that I’ve been interested in pediatrics since I was 5 (stay tuned for a post about that…). Also, I’m a psych major and really interested in medicine for the purpose of traveling and providing healthcare around the world and spreading the love of Jesus. And of course I want to be able to do all that along with being a godly wife and mother. Guess who my interviewers were:

-a pediatric anesthesiologist (who is also a wife and mother)

-a pediatric oncologist (he was incredibly encouraging/inspiring and gave me even more reasons to want to go into pediatrics)

-an awesome medical student interested in traveling and providing healthcare around the world (and has done so through his med school)

-a psychiatrist who double majored in psychology and biology in college

-a pediatrician who now teaches about newborns at the med school (and is also a wife and mother)

And just fyi–these interviewers were all assigned randomly: it was a computer-generated process.

He is faithful.

I could go on and on about how God has proved Himself faithful in my life. But I just needed to write out at least a few of those ways to remind me. It’s funny how if we don’t consciously attempt to remember God’s faithfulness, we are so prone to forgetting. And I don’t want to forget.

He is faithful.

Because guys, I need a faithful God.

I need Someone who will never change.

I need Someone who will fight for me.

I need Someone whose love for me is unfailing, never changing, and eternal.

I need Jesus. And whether you realize it or not, you do too.

He is faithful.

So if you already know Him, I’d encourage you to take some time to remember His acts of faithfulness in your life. Remind yourself that He who was faithful will continue to be faithful.

He is faithful.

If you don’t know Jesus, get in touch with me. I’d love to introduce you to Him. Or sit down with a Bible and read through the book of John. Get to know Jesus for who HE is…don’t judge Jesus purely based on people you know who claim to represent Him or on bad experiences you’ve had with religion or the church. Judge Jesus based on His acts of love for you: He died on the cross for your sins and mine. He rose on the third day, conquering death and giving us life. All we need to do is admit our desperate need for Him and believe that JESUS is the one true Son of God who brings us salvation. Just remember this: He loves you more than you can imagine, and you need Him more than you can realize.

He is faithful.

Since it’s been so long since my last post, I’ll include three songs here too that remind me of God’s faithfulness. You’ve probably heard them, but I am loving these lyrics. And the best part is the lyrics are true 🙂

He is faithful.

Not For A Moment (After All) by Meredith Andrews

[Verse 1]
You were reaching through the storm
Walking on the water
Even when I could not see
In the middle of it all
When I thought You were a thousand miles away
Not for a moment did You forsake me
Not for a moment did You forsake me

After all You are constant
After all You are only good
After all You are sovereign
Not for a moment will You forsake me
Not for a moment will You forsake me

[Verse 2]
You were singing in the dark
Whispering Your promise
Even when I could not hear
I was held in Your arms
Carried for a thousand miles to show
Not for a moment did You forsake me

And every step every breath You are there
Every tear every cry every prayer
In my hurt at my worst
When my world falls down
Not for a moment will You forsake me
Even in the dark
Even when it’s hard
You will never leave me
After all

He is faithful.

Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)

You hear me when I call
You are my morning song
Though darkness fills the night
It cannot hide the light
Whom shall I fear?

You crush the enemy
Underneath my feet
You are my sword and shield
Though trouble linger still
Whom shall I fear?

I know who goes before me
I know who stands behind
The God of angel armies is always by my side
The One who reigns forever
He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies is always by my side

My strength is in Your name
For You alone can save
You will deliver me
Yours is the victory
Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?

And nothing formed against me shall stand
You hold the whole world in Your hands
I’m holding on to Your promises
You are faithful
You are faithful

He is faithful.

Promises by Sanctus Real

Sometimes it’s hard to keep believing
In what you can’t see
That everything happens for a reason
Even the worst life brings
If you’re reaching for an answer
And you don’t know what to pray
Just open up the pages
Let His word be your strength

And hold on to the promises (Hold tight)
Hold on to the promises (Alright)
Jesus is alive so hold tight
Hold on to the promises

All things work for the good
Of those who love God
He holds back nothing that will heal you
Not even His own Son
His love is everlasting
His faithfulness unending
Oh, if God is for us who can be against us
So if you feel weak

Neither life, nor death
Could separate us
From the eternal love
Of our God who saves us

He is faithful.

For real, check those songs out. Unbelievable encouragement.

I don’t know what all of you are going through, but I know what some of you are going through. Just so you know, I’m praying for you all. God knows your concerns, anxieties, doubts, and fears even if I don’t. Remind yourself: He is faithful and He will carry you through. I love you all, dear readers.

He is faithful.

God’s grace in my life today:

He is faithful. He is faithful. He is faithful.

He is faithful.

“When we face difficulties, we sometimes forget God’s past faithfulness. We see only the detours and the dangerous path. But look back and you will also see the joy of victory, the challenge of the climb, and the presence of your Traveling Companion who has promised never to leave you nor forsake you.”

-Author Unknown

He is faithful.

We fail Him, but, blessed be His name, He has never failed us, and He never will do so. We doubt Him, we mistrust His love and His providence and His guidance; we “faint because of the way;” we murmur because of the way; yet all the time He is there blessing us, and waiting to pour out upon us a blessing so great that there shall not be room to receive it.”

-Author Unknown, The Kneeling Christian, circa 1930, ch. 4

He is faithful.

“When others behave badly to us, it should only stir us up the more heartily to give thanks unto the Lord, because He is good; and when we ourselves are conscious that we are far from being good, we should only the more reverently bless Him that He is good. We must never tolerate an instant’s unbelief as to the goodness of the Lord; whatever else may be questioned, this is absolutely certain, that Jehovah is good; His dispensations may vary, but His nature is always the same.

-Charles Sprugeon

  1. First of all, Amen, Amen, and Amen! to the last few paragraphs before the songs. As for the three songs you posted the lyrics of, they all have been playing in my head or on the radio lately and God has been using them to speak into my life and give me encouragement. Med school interview: you didn’t tell me all that, that’s amazing how God planned for all those people to be sitting in for the interview! God is so good in the details of our live =) I agree about John Stamos mostly due to the fact that I never liked his long, shaggy hair & clean-shaven stage in Full House so I like the rugged handsome look he has now lol. And I like the heart-shaped glasses on the golden even though I don’t really love Valentine’s Day (and no, the reasoning is not because I’m single, I have other reasons!). But to end on a serious note, thank you for the precious reminder that God is good, God is faithful, and most importantly that God is the greatest love there is and we need to know Him personally =) Love you bestie!

  2. Rosh:
Wonderful words and thoughts of Godly praise, thanksgiving, and encouragement. Yes, He is always Faithful and always works for our good….Rom. 8:28.
I thank Jesus for you! Continue to live and shine for Jesus!
    Love you,
    Your Dad (and Mom)
