Alive

“The more I learn, the more I am amazed. Amazed that so many people are born healthy and remain functioning through such a long life, when so very many things could go wrong. Waking up healthy each day really is a marvel.”

One of my friends who is currently a medical student wrote that as his Facebook status today.

I completely agree. It’s easy to complain about the little things. But for every one thing that goes wrong, there are a hundred things that haven’t gone wrong, that are keeping us alive.

Your heart’s pumping blood, neurons are firing, the hypothalamus is maintaining homeostasis, cells are dividing in a controlled manner, oxygen is being inhaled, carbon dioxide is being exhaled, white blood cells are fighting infections, food is being digested and converted into energy, and so on and so on.

If you took the time to learn all the details of each of those processes alone, to learn all the steps that must occur along the way, you’d be amazed at how intricately we were created. So many things could go wrong…and don’t. We’re living, breathing testimonies that God does miracles every day.

“It was possible that a miracle was not something that happened to you, but rather something that didn’t.” -Jodi Piocult

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” -Albert Einstein

And even more amazing for me, I’m not only physically alive, but I’m spiritually alive because of Christ’s work on the cross.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; He took it away, nailing it to the cross.” -Colossians 2:13-14

this is just so beautiful.

God’s grace in my life today:

I’m alive.
